What Is Sober Living?

Sober living is a structured residential environment that supports individuals who are committed to sobriety but benefit from continued accountability and community.

It serves as a transitional phase between inpatient treatment and independent living, offering residents the opportunity to strengthen recovery skills while gradually increasing personal responsibility.

At James Club Recovery, sober living is more than housing. Each residence functions as a recovery-focused community built around discipline, shared responsibility, and personal growth. Residents live in drug and alcohol-free homes where routines, peer connection, and continued engagement in treatment reinforce healthy patterns.

The goal is to provide stability while allowing individuals to work, attend school, fulfill legal obligations, and restore relationships.

Sober Living vs Halfway House

The terms sober living and halfway house are often used interchangeably, though traditionally a halfway house is usually court-mandated and may be government-funded.

Whether a person is seeking sober living or a halfway house in Fort Lauderdale, James Club Recovery can help. While in our care, residents participate in ongoing recovery programming, remain engaged in therapeutic services, and are encouraged to pursue education, employment, and meaningful community involvement.

Rather than simply providing a place to stay, our transitional housing cultivates personal responsibility, life skills, and spiritual development.

About James Club’s Sober Living in Fort Lauderdale

Since 2016, we have served the South Florida area with consistency and measurable outcomes.

The program follows a four-phase progression model that allows residents to advance through increasing levels of responsibility and independence. While many participants complete the program within nine to twelve months, there is no strict time limit. Recovery unfolds differently for each individual, and our objective is lasting transformation rather than rushed transitions.

In addition, residents participate in structured 12-step immersion designed to deepen fellowship and self-improvement. Daily meeting attendance, step work, sponsorship engagement, and active service commitments are integrated into the living experience to strengthen positive habits.

Our program is especially effective for individuals coming out of jail or navigating legal challenges.

We work closely with the legal system and maintain strong professional relationships within the courthouse. For residents facing court requirements, probation, or other legal obligations, we provide advocacy and communication that demonstrates commitment and progress.

We also offer MAT-certified housing. This ensures that residents receiving medications as part of treatment can continue their plan while remaining fully engaged in the recovery community.

Florida Association of Recovery Residences (FARR) Certification

Our sober living residences are certified by the Florida Association of Recovery Residences (FARR) and designed to provide a clean, safe, and focused environment for both men and women.

James Club Treatment Center is proud to have a certification by the FARR. The FARR enforces quality standards for recovery houses mandated by Florida Statute 397.487. These standards include upholding residents’ rights, providing a homelike environment, facilitating recovery community engagement, and modeling prosocial behaviors.

What To Expect In Sober Living

Our sober living includes modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, fitness areas, and comfortable shared living spaces. Our center also features recreational facilities that encourage physical wellness and balanced living, reinforcing the importance of routine and healthy activity.

Beyond the specifics of the residence, life at our sober living in Fort Lauderdale includes:

Rules of Sober Living

Clear expectations are necessary to maintain a stable and safe residence. Our guidelines exist to protect the well-being of every resident and to create an atmosphere that encourages ongoing growth and healing.

Therefore, residents are required to:

These expectations are not intended to restrict independence but to provide a dependable foundation where residents can strengthen patterns that support lasting personal development and sobriety.

How Effective Is Sober Living?

Extended residence in a recovery-centered environment significantly reduces the likelihood of relapse compared to returning immediately to housing that may trigger stress and emotional instability.

Sober living increases accountability, instills healthy routines, and deepens peer connections that sustain motivation.

Abstinent Rates Increase 2x in Sober Living Programs

A study of sober living outcomes published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs on Clean and Sober Transitional Living (CSTL) in Sacramento County, California, found that residents improved their rates of abstaining from substance abuse.

According to the study “residents reduced or stopped their substance use between baseline and 6 month follow up and then maintained those improvements at 12 and 18 months.”

After participating in the program, abstinence rates improved from 20% at baseline to 40% after a 6 month follow-up. Follow-ups from 12 months after the program showed an abstinent rate of 45%.

Thus, sober living programs can more than double the abstinence rates of participants for the long-term.

Sober Living at James Club

At James Club Recovery, effectiveness is measured not only by continued abstinence but also by improvements in personal responsibility, employment stability, legal compliance, and overall quality of life. The extended duration of our program allows residents to internalize healing principles rather than simply comply with short-term expectations.

For individuals transitioning from incarceration, sober living also decreases the likelihood of re-offending by providing consistent scheduling, advocacy, and constructive daily engagement. The combination of housing, programming, and mentorship creates conditions where genuine transformation can take place.

Our Programs Offered During Sober Living

Residents of our halfway house in Fort Lauderdale have access to multiple levels of clinical care. These programs are intended to meet individuals where they are in recovery, offering them the specific level of support they need during each stage of treatment.

Our programs include:

  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): PHP provides structured daytime therapeutic engagement for individuals who require additional support.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): IOP offers sessions three days a week, allowing participants to manage personal responsibilities while still receiving a high-level of treatment.
  • Outpatient Mentoring Program: Our outpatient program delivers continued mentoring and therapeutic services for those further along in recovery. This integrated model ensures continuity of care while maintaining stable housing.
