Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which a trained therapist leads a group of clients through structured sessions focused on mental health, behavioral challenges, and substance use recovery.
Unlike individual counseling, group therapy provides the opportunity to learn from others’ experiences, receive feedback, and practice new skills in a non-judgmental environment. Sessions may cover a variety of topics, including coping strategies, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, communication skills, and personal growth.
Participants are encouraged to share openly while respecting the confidentiality of the group, creating an atmosphere of trust and mutual support. Group therapy is highly effective for promoting empathy, reducing isolation, and increasing motivation by observing the progress and difficulties of others in similar circumstances.
At James Club Recovery, we offer a variety of evidence-based group therapy approaches to meet the diverse needs of our clients, including:
We provide a variety of programming in order to meet each of our clients’ needs throughout every stage of treatment. Group therapy is integrated into these levels of care to supply consistent peer support and guidance throughout the healing process.
The specifics of each of our programs are highlighted below:
Conducted five days a week for the majority of the day, partial hospitalization program (PHP) combines group therapy, individual counseling, family sessions, and mentoring for clients needing comprehensive support.
PHP participants benefit from the immersive nature of daily groups, which allows for continuous feedback, skill development, and reinforcement of recovery principles. In the evenings, clients are able to return home. If they do not have a stable home environment, sober living services are heavily encouraged.
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) still provide a high level of care while integrating an appropriate amount of freedom into treatment.
Similar to a PHP, it allows clients to live at home or in transitional housing. However, participants typically attend sessions three days a week for a few hours at a time. Peer interaction, guided discussions, and mentoring in IOP enhance skill-building, provide opportunities to practice coping strategies in real-life situations, and promote consistent engagement in recovery. Clients can immediately apply what they learn in group settings to daily life, making this program highly effective for those balancing responsibilities outside of treatment.
Our outpatient program provides ongoing therapy sessions for clients as they assimilate fully back into their daily lives.
OP groups emphasize long-term maintenance, personal growth, and continued connection to peers. This, therefore, offers a reliable support network for individuals navigating life after more intensive treatment.
Group therapy can benefit anyone who wants to improve coping skills, manage emotions, or strengthen interpersonal connections.
You may find group therapy particularly helpful if you feel isolated or disconnected from others during recovery, or want to learn practical strategies for managing addiction triggers or emotional challenges. Additionally, it may help those who have a difficult time with communication, relationships, or social interactions. It is also valuable for those who benefit from peer support and shared experiences in a structured environment, or for individuals seeking accountability and motivation in their recovery journey.
Group therapy in Fort Lauderdale provides a safe space to process trauma, grief, or life transitions while encouraging participants to practice newfound stress-management techniques in real-world scenarios.
Participation is often complementary to individual counseling and holistic services. This implements a well-rounded approach to emotional growth, behavioral change, and long-term recovery. By combining personal reflection with the insights and support of peers, clients gain both perspective and practical tools to navigate struggles and fortify their overall resilience.
