
Karen Miller, CBHT, CAC, entered the field of chemical dependency as a behavioral health technician in July 1975 at Miller-Dwan Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. Within a few months, she was encouraged to enter the counselor training program at Hazelden in Center City, Minnesota.
She enrolled in April 1976 and completed her training at a Hazelden facility in Vancouver, Washington. After receiving her certificate of completion in April 1977, she returned to Miller-Dwan Hospital and began working as a counselor in May 1977.
Since then, Karen has held several roles in the addiction treatment field, including counselor, technician, lead technician, operations manager, and case manager. When Hazelden partnered with the Hanley family to open a facility in Florida in June 1986, she relocated to Florida.
Her first position there was at the Hanley Hazelden Center in West Palm Beach. Since that time, she has worked in many treatment facilities. She especially enjoys face-to-face dialogue with clients and specializes in psychoeducational and Reality Therapy groups.
On a personal level, Karen has been clean and sober since January 7, 1975. She remains active in 12-step recovery and works daily to practice recovery principles in every area of her personal life.
